Wetlands comprise about 6% of the worlds surface and yet support a disproportionately  high amount of the human population. They are among the most productive of all habitats – their ecosystem services support the very marginalized of our communities and are crucial for healthy built environments.

Research Themes

Environment

Global environmental change is one among many complex drivers that challenge wetland habitat as the foundation of Wetland Cities.

Social

The social dimensions of urban wetlands will play an important role in sustaining the development of Wetland Cities.

Governance

Public policy and governance frameworks that guide the functioning of Wetland Cities will need to adapt to its particular strengths and weaknesses.

Tech

Technologies such as those utilizing nature-based solutions will become a dominant force in constructing the urban fabric of Wetland Cities.

Public Health

Wetland Cities presents a novel built environment that will come with new public health advantages and disadvantages.

Economic

Wetland Cities will need to make full use of the Circular and ‘Green Economy’ to reduce its impact on our planet and produce just and fair futures for all.
